I was totally stunned and extremely surprised to hear of Michael Jackson’s death today. It is said that you will always remember where you were when you found out an icon of your generation died and this is certainly no exception. I will certainly remember not only where I was today but exactly what I was doing and why I was there.

Today I happened to be in San Diego. I was there for a job interview. I called my interviewer at 3:15pm (pacific) to ask her for parking instructions. Parking can be quite a problem in ocean-side towns and San Diego does not stray from that tradition in the least. Just after receiving parking instructions from my interviewer she asked me “hey, did you hear Michael Jackson died?”

I am a huge music fan! Not just in what I hear and like to listen to, but more importantly for what music does for the world. I truly believe music is the most powerful and important artistic expression created by the human race. I also believe art lives in the core of every human soul.

Michael was a true musical genius perfecting his art in every way. That is what allowed him to so easily touch the souls of so many. Michael was, is, and always be an icon. He will forever live on in how he has changed all of us.

Michael wrote and performed the perfect song for this event. Please enjoy You Are Not Alone and remember a legend.

We all know The Oprah Effect. Some say her seal of approval is how President Obama got elected. When she puts her seal on a book it certainly skyrockets to the top of every best seller list. I recently sent her my resume to see if she will put her seal on it. If it comes back stamped I will be Director of Development at Google next week- BET!

Anyway, The Oprah Effect has recently worked its magic on Twitter. Thanks to Oprah joining Twitter my parents are now on Twitter. My parents are almost 60 years old! Twitter has truly crossed over, it is no isolated to the hip in-crowd or whatever the kids call it these days!

Am I the only one who thinks it is totally hilarious and amazing that senior activities that were once dominated by cross-word puzzles and shuffle board now include Twitter and Wii?

I graduated from The Art Institute of Las Vegas in 2006. During my time there many of my advanced web development classes were taught by Mat Rosa, a grumpy developer-designer-teacher self proclaimed on his website mobimeet.

Mat recently wrote a great Rant clearing up the differences between web designers, web developers, webmasters, and web architects. After reading his post, I felt pretty good about being a solid Web Developer. Less than two years ago I would have barely fit into the Web Designer category and I have made all of this progress on my own!

My new 5 year goal is to become a Web Architect! I guess I better go get started.

Go check out Mat’s Rant on mobimeet and find out where you fall in on the list.
